Help me show DW how smart I am
So here's the story. We have an '03 Winnebago Journey DL...the glass on the P/S fog lamp is cracked, and I want to replace it. Went to 5 auto parts stores with no luck...called Winnebago dealership and they will only sell me the entire unit (for ONLY $155.00).... ....so I told the wife "No worries....the guys in IRV2 will have an idea". So here I am...I just need a bulb that will fit the housing...4.5" across...as long as it's 12V I can make up the connections, and silicone the bulb into the housing. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Jim

Somewhere on the base or the back of the bulb you should find a manufacturer name and part #. From there, Google is your friend.

Does the bulb still light? I would guess that there's a separate bulb behind the lens. If it still works you could just run a small bead of epoxy along the crack in the lens to seal it. If you can take it apart and epoxy the edges of the break that would be even better.

1...no markings at all on bulb...just says K11 on the front
2...I know I can epoxy the crack, but what I want is not to have a broken lens...reminds me of the kid in school with the tape on his glasses
Any more ideas?

Hey everyone
I think Chris gave me the lead I need. Thank you my friend. I followed that link and got some great ideas for installing driving lights in place of the fog lights....thanks very much.
On another vein...I noticed on a post from 2007 the replacement cost from Winnie on this light assembly was then about $60.....today it's $155. I thought the smart folks in Washington said there was no inflation...guess I must have misunderstood them....stupid me.

They are actually Hella lamps, and were OEM lights on a 1969 Mustang (I think I remember that right) You can order them from Ford, or possibly a classic car outlet. I ordered some of the cheap ones, and the lens actually fell off. It's a sealed bulb, so lens replacement isn't possible. Mine are both cracked now, and not going to replace until I can make a rock screen to protect them!

Now there's an oxymoron, or is the "oxy" part just superfluous?

I bought a whole new one from Mobility RV for $$$$ (way less than $155 tho). Found out later the lamp is a halogen H3 12V 55w available on the internet for less than $10. You can replace it yourself. If you are concerned about the crack, you have to spend the $$$$.

I replaced one on Journey about a year ago but am not sure why. I have never turned it on except to confirm that it worked.

Garden tractor headlights are about that size... I have a hand held spot light that is made from a 4" "Plumber's helper" type plunger and such a light. they have screw terminals on the back. Auto parts or Lawn & Garden stores should have 'em. Note stores, NOT departments.
Also some landscaping lights are about that size as well Lowes, home depot, et-al.

Don't know if this is the right one, but it looks similar. Search said it's for a 69 Mustang.

I replaced my fog lights in 2007 from 4wheelonline for about $60/pr after going through 2 of the bulbs for $70/each. These don't appear to be as prone to rock damage as the original bulbs. I didn't find a big savings in using the Mustang bulbs over the ones from Winnie. I have a 2001 Itasca Horizon.

Not sure of the exact years, but I believe that the 1993 - 1997 Ford Ranger pickup fog lights are the exact same, including the mount. They are much cheaper than those from Winnie. Check them out. I researched this to replace one of mine which has a different glass pattern from the original.

I had a similar problem and they might be "Kaper II" lights. See here
Very helpful people that supplied many RV's. Kelso, Washington

I got my replacement fog/driving lights from a Ford parts supplier. I think the two lights were about $60. They were listed as Ford Ranger/Mustang lights....in the mid '90's model years.
