RV Pad for Winnebago View

Hello,

I am looking to have an RV pad built in my yard for my View 24M. I was thinking something like 10x24 but not sure about specs (i.e. rebar/patterns/thickness, etc.). Eventually I would want to put some type of permanent cover over it as well (RV port or permanent roof). Can anyone make a recommendation? Thanks!

Don't build it to small. You may want a bigger RV some day. My first RV was a 34'. I build a 44 X 28 (outside measurements) garage and all my friends thought I was crazy. I now have a 40' MH and 2 cars in it and it is full. I have just enough space to squeeze in front and back of the RV. Ask anyone you know if they ever build a slab or garage to big?

The soil beneath is an important factor. The most affordable thing you can do is get a reputable local contractor to help you spec the pad. You might be able to get a Civil Engineer to give you guidance but that could be expensive. How the water is handled on and around the pad will contribute as much to its longevity as the structure if the pad.

Building it larger sounds like a good idea if you have the room. The incremental cost could be small.

It is possible if your soil is strong and stable 4 inches of lightly reinforced concrete could serve for years, but you might need a lot more than that.

If you're not sure what you want in the long run, a gravel pad is a good start and inexpensive.

I would size and spec the strength of your pad for a possibility that might move up to a bigger RV. If you have room I would allow for a 30' length pad. One lesson I learned is if you are putting your pad adjacent to a structure like a garage, consider the roof overhang. I did 10' wide but if I had it to do over again I would do it 11' wide due to the 8" overhang of the garage roof.

I built a pad for my RV in 2014 in Kansas, a 4 season climate location. Two years and two winters later it still has not cracked. Here are some suggestions to get a pad that is strong and will last, and will accomodate a future motor home if you ever upgrade:

- 4" AB-3 or crushed concrete base, compacted
- 5" concrete slab thickness
- Require 4000 PSI at 28 days strength concrete be used
- Require Granite or Quartzite aggregate in mix - NO LIMESTONE in aggregate
- Require 7 % air content mix be used
- Require 4" slump maximum mix be used
- Require re-bar on stairs reinforcement in pad
- Have fibermesh addmix be included in the concrete mix,
>= 1 pound per cubic yard.
- Control joints - 1.25 inch depth minimum separation of 8' apart

I put in a gravel pad 40' x 60'. I dug out the soil down 1', laid down fabric then filled it with 12" of class 5 fill packed down with each load and topped with 2" of gravel.

We have two motor homes, one 35' long and the other 38' long. I thought there would be plenty of room for a tow dolly and utility trailer, but found out it is just about right.

We have a lot of frost heaving action here in NE North Dakota.

It has worked out well
