I just received a recall letter from Freightliner. The subject is the ZF steering, the issue is that the steering wheel could become disconnected from the wheels, allowing a total loss of steering.
This applies to XC chassis manufactured between April 8, 2004 and December 23, 2004. Note that this is the chassis date not the Winnebago manufacturing date.

You need to proof read your topic, or else I've missed something. The Steering wheel is not connected to the wheels. It's connected to the Steering Colum, which is held in place by the cab structure. A steering colum shaft connects to the steering control gear box, which connects to a drag link and so on and so forth.
The way you wrote this topic doesn't make sense. Is the recalled numbered, so we can go to the FreightLiner Web site and read it for ourselves?
This information is important and needs to be accurate. Thanks for bring it to our attention.

Lighten up radarr, the steering wheel is certainly connected to the front wheels, maybe not directly, but eventually. If in fact you turn the steering wheel and the front wheels don't turn, you might say that the steering wheel has been disconnected.
The way Freightliner put it was "the steering shaft splines could push through the lower yoke, allowing the steering wheel to turn without any response". Is that better?
The campaign number is FL452AB, the NHTSA number is 05V-408

Whatever the recall said, if my steering wheel ain't connected to the front wheels so that it will turn them, I am not driving it.
Many of us are mechanical terminology challenged. With or without tools. Good Miles

CalTex,
Thanks for the heads up on the recall. I called the local Freighliner facility and they said they would keep my steering wheel connected to the front wheels by installing the repair kit.

I just received the same recall notice today (2005 Vectra 40AD. I called the Freightliner dealer and he informed me he has the repair kit in stock and am scheduled for Monday.
Great job on Freightliner's part on having the parts available.
