2003 Itasca basement air.
Slept with the windows open for a change last night. After starting generator this morning to charge batteries I walked outside and notice the compressor was running blowing air. After checking that thermostat was off and A/C was not blowing I turned the fan switch from Auto to on and the fan was blowing cold air.Don't seem to matter what position the A/C off heat switch is in.I can unplug thermostat and compressor will shut down. Shut off breaker to stop it tonight.
Is there a way to test to see if it is my thermostat or the control board?
Sounds like a stuck contact someplace. Try disconnecting the thermostat and see what happens.

I unplugged each connector at thermostat one at a time. Each on will stop the outside fan from running. I am going to clean the contacts on the thermostat today and see if it helps. May start with replacing the thermostat and hope that solves it.
Just to follow up.
I cleaned the contacts on the thermostat and the outside fan and compressor seemed to be working fine. New problem now about 2am the compressor sounded like it was trying to come on but then shut off even with the thermostat in off position.
New thermostat showed up today and everything seems to be working as it should now. Will update if I have any other issues.
