The original poster is complaining about the dish "hunting" for satellites. This has nothing to do with whether or not the DirecTV receiver is authorized.

If you pull the cover on any of the 'dome' type...

If you pull the cover on any of the 'dome' type dishes you'll find the actual antenna/dish to be extremely small.. overall surface smaller than a dinner plate. It doesn't take much of an obstruction...
