Loosen your element first before draining the tank, it will help with hold the tank with the added weight to break loose the connection. After you loosen it then drain the tank.

If you had the battery's changed out it could be related to that. If they could have a short in the connection or connected the batteries wrong and gave you 24 volt vs 12?

I did the same thing this weekend, remove the checks valve internals and reinstalled them. You would think they could have come up with something better than the cheep white plastic junk...

Did you cut the house heater fan on and blow the fuse? There is a issue with the fan cage moving on the shaft causing the fan rub and drag blowing the fuse, that is shares with the backup camera.
