How to keep road dirt off rear carried bicycles ??

We have a Vista & will be carrying 2 bikes on a Thule hitch mounted carrier. The Vista has the 1 dully mud flap that it came with. Formerly we had a Navion with the same bicycle rack system & found it really picked up the road dirt on the bike gears. [the Navion had no mud flaps.] It seemed the dust/grime got sucked up right behind the Navion & onto the bikes. Even with the bikes wrapped in plastic the chain/gears got very dirty. [This
Any ideas of the best ways to cut way down on the dust getting to the bikes. ??? We go go on dirt roads at times.
The Vista hopefully has different aerodynamic pattern than the 2008 Navion
& won't suck up the dirt so much. We'll find out soon.
Anybody else out there able to keep there bikes clean[ish] behind their RV; especially a Vista ???
