I'm nearing the end of my shopping phase and getting ready to order a Sightseer 35J for a early-Spring 2008 delivery. Contemplating the Workhorse / F53 decision, but wanted to ask about tire size. I see that the F53 has 19.5" but the Workhorse appears to have 22" as an option. Are there any advantages to 22" over 19.5" (other than the "I'll look more like a DP") and would it be worth extra $$$.
This is my first post in this forum but do like what I see so far and appreciate everybody's notes to learn from.

The 22.5" tires will have a greater load capacity than the 19.5" tires.
Might be worth getting if you are close to the capacity rating of your tires but not to the chassis carrying capacity.
Could also be that the Workhorse chassis is rated for a higher weight carrying capacity

I also feel that the larger tires offer more stability, improved tracking/handling and better driveability.
Logic says that you should get better gas mileage but not sure if that is true.

22.5" aliminum wheels are optional on the larger 228" and 242" wheelbase Ford chassis. I'm not sure it's going to make much difference since the Workhorse chassis is only rated for 500 lbs more weight on the front axle. The rears are the same.
We put about 50,000 miles on our first set of 19.5" tires and only changed them late last year due to an alignment problem. New Goodyear G670 245R 19.5" tires cost about $300.00 ea. installed and balanced.
22.5" tires were around $425.00 at the time. Unless you plan to put on a lot of miles they'll probably have to be changed out due to age long before they wear out.
If you're truely interested in the larger tires ask your dealer if they can be ordered as an option. I would think Winnebago would offer any options available from their chassis manufacturers

There is a multitude of differences between the 19.5 and 22.5 tires. Many of them have been pointed out...I would always go for the larger tires as they will give you far better service and I think the ride is better..
Ford Vs Workhorse, I have had both and I find the Workhorse much quiter and the doghouse doesn't get near as hot as the Ford (99) did..
Maybe Ford is much improved by now, but I do like my Workhorse. Good luck on making your decision..Check the CCC of both coaches and see what you get...

On this forum the handling problems are with the 22.5 inch tires. The foot print difference is nill. From what I've read here I'm glad I have 19.5's Saved a lot of $$$$$ on after market products...Leave the 22.5 to the DP's with shocks and airbags!
Besides the higher the coach, the higher the center of gravity, (roll/pitching)

I had 19.5 tires on our Winn Adventurer 35U on a W-20 chassis. Had no problems with them.

I also have 19.5 tires on my 35' suncruiser the reason I got the 19.5 tires is that it came with a spare tire and if I got the 22" tires as a option. It wouldent come with the spare tire and I like knowing when I need it .it is there and I am not out looking for a tire and a tire changer

I think the 22's allow larger basement storage compartments than the 19.5's at least from some manufacturers. We have the 19.5's on ours and are very happy with them. I like having the spare tire with me, but then again I've yet to get a flat- knock on wood! So many people think the 22's make their rv look like a diesel, I don't and can tell at a fair distance if an rv is diesel or not without looking at the tire size. Get what you want and get out there and enjoy it!
