Best practice for slides

Is it a good idea to place supports under a slide when it is extended and do any of you do this? Seems like with the light construction materials used it would be a good idea.

Good question. I have a friend who uses them on his Arctic Fox 5th wheel but I think his sagged a bit without them.

I've been using mine for 3 years and have not used any support under the slide. No sagging noticed. It's designed to be "free standing" or hanging as the case may be. Unless you were going to set the camper up in a permanent location, I don't think I would worry about it.

Accidently retracting the slide with the brace still under it would probably do more damage than you would ever prevent. Just my thoughts.

Most manufacturers specifically say not to put any sort of support under the slides since the RV is designed to support them. The issue is that any settling of the RV could potentially raise the slide relative to the main body. This could cause expensive damage to the slide or RV frame.

So be sure to read the owner's manual regarding the operation of your slides.
