I am pretty much set on a 4x4 chassis if I buy a Class B motorhome. I am also pretty much set on sleeping in my living area to allow more room for storage, kitchen, etc. as well as making use of the captain chairs for seating. Does anyone know why the Era 70M doesn't have a 4x4 drive train option?
I do, because I asked the EXACT SAME QUESTION to Winniebago about my own 170M.
the 170M, because it has a 2nd slideout, is based on a dual-cargo-door version of the Sprinter. Benz doesn't offer the 4x4 van with dual cargo doors.
I also haven't checked to be sure, but I suspect the 4x4 version isn't offered in the 25' long frame required by the 170M, since the 4x4 class B motorhomes all seem to be based on the 19' version.
I should say, if you plan to leave the bed down and sit on the captain's chairs, that's not a good plan with the 170M.
Turning the driver's seat around is kind of pointless, because the slideout has a wall right behind the driver.
The passenger seat is very handy, EXCEPT when the bed is down.
It's a great rig, got way more storage than any other class B, and even most B+'s, the bed is decently comfy, the sofa doesn't suck... but there are limits. :-)
70A and 70X can be had in 4x4, but not 70C & 70M...I'd agree with bigfatguy...probably due to the slide/dual cargo door.
After living almost full time in my 70C, I traded my 70C for a 4x4 Revel. Much happier now. Got really tired of putting the bed/couch down and up every night and day.
