Smile Wheel wells

I just bought a 2014 Forza 38R and it is my first DP and I was wondering why the wheel wells have hinges on them??

The fenders surrounding the wheels can be lifted to perform major work. Most good shops can remove the tires without lifting the fenders - some can't.
