While parked in south Texas, the slip connection on the P-Trap in the shower water started dumping on the floor under the shower. we took off the inspection plate on the shower discover the connection had come apart and several inches of water standing under the shower. Reconnected the P-Trap and vacuumed the water, seems OK. But why did this happen and how to prevent future leaks. We have a washer & dryer and there is vibration when the washer spins. Could this be the culprit?
There should be a nylon compression washer under the nut that tightens the slip connection. If you have the nut at the proper tightness , about 1/4 turn past as tight as you can get it by hand the force of the compression washer against the threads should hold it even in presence of vibration , and it should not come apart again.
