Mirror vibration

My mirrors like me are old, and they shake and bounce a lot going down the road. I have heard that the mirror manufacturer makes spongy wedges that can be placed between the glass and the housing that will calm the movement making the image you see more usable.

I have searched a lot but have not found anywhere to purchase these. Anyone know what I am talking about and have a source for these items?

Is this a mirror that adjusts from inside? We had one which bounced way too much and found it was as simple as a spring on the backside but inside where it was out of sight.

Could you be so lucky?

I am due to be lucky, yes they are the Velvac or something like that, I don't even know how they come apart. Wonder if there is a YT video fore that.

And yes it is one that is adjusted via motor from inside the coach

I've totally forgotten what was done on our bad one but it was so simple they just came out and did it rather than write anything up!
From here it looks like the info you've found is the way to go, at least to spot anything loos, so you know where to go from there.

I performed both adjustments per the bulletin. the first is an attempt to use the mirror shell to protect the glass from wind influence by centering the mirrors in the shell and adjusting the shell to a good line of sight then tightening the mirror in place. This lets the adjustments from the cab be fine tuning adjustments only. This makes sense.

The second adjustment is mainly for the wiggle. Each mirror has four metal tangs that stick out, one at the top and one at the bottom of each side. Adjust the mirror to gain access to each of the four tangs and bend them out away from the mirror, then tuck them back inside the shell. These tang spring against (rub) the inside of the shell giving support to the mirror.

I won't know for sure till I am back on the road this Friday, but they feel a lot more solid in the shell than they did before I made the adjustment.

I also moved the arm on the RH mirror out so the whole mirror now sees past the awning arms.

All in all a good day.

Ok two day trip back home and the mirrors did so much better. They still wiggle around a bit, but I can make sense of what I am seeing now. I may try to spread the stabilization springs a bit farther at some point but the improvement is enough to claim the win on the adjustments.

A little late to the party, but......

I have the Velvac manual with wiring diagram, but is too large by 0.19 megs to attach.

In addition to the good info Morich gave you, I also extracted the adjustment set screws, lifted the mirror head, and lightly file/smoothed the post where the set screws land. Our set screws had points to dig into the post. I replaced them with ones that have cups instead of points. Much improvement.

Tim

I have the manual zipped, but .zip is not an accepted file.

I speak Spanish, Tagalog and stumble around in East Texican. Translate and walk me through this drop box concept and I will provide you the Velvac manual. (and many others if needed. I've downloaded manuals on nearly everything in our rig to have as we wander the byways)

I have left a message with Velvac, let's see if they respond with a link to download the manual
