1998 Chieftain 36 slide winch missing

I purchased a 1998 36' Chieftain last year. Its 36 foot with a 5.9 cummins and 6 speed allison. It has a 1 slide in the living room. All is working well now. What I am asking is I know from the manual that there should be an emergency slide winch in the coach somewhere, and there is not. I have been under the dinette and all through the basement. It parted ways with the coach at some point. I am sure I can buy something and fab the hook necessary.

Question 1: Does anyone have a picture of the proper hand winch and bracket one for this year and model or something very similar?

Question 2: The book indicates that it should hook into a heater vent but that doesn't make sense in this model. I'm thinking it hooks on at the top of the stairs. I do have 2 black straps with loops in them near the seatbelts behind the couch.

I want to be prepared incase the slide ever will not move.

Thanks Much

Will Holt

Traveling with phone only, so very limited!
Suggest search for Winnebago service parts catalog to find your exact RV.
I have no link handy.
When find your RVlocate chassis section as it had drawings and part nos to see where parts located!

Sorry, I'm crippled on comms at the moment as traveling

HWH emergency room retract procedure with picture of main winch. In addition to the winch, a tube is needed to route the hydraulic fluid back in to the tank. What that does not address is, each HWH slide mechanism should have it's own winch due to different mechanical configuration.

This pdf is for the new style pump/motor assy. Not yours.

I was mulling this over and I think a simple winch with hook that secures the come-along to the floor register hole in the floor opposite the slide room. If there isn't room for the winch next to the floor hole a short strap could be used. I don't know how the winches for bedroom slide is made but I suspect the same come-along would also work.

This might even work, plus have other uses: https://www.harborfreight.com/automo...ler-30131.html You'd have to make a flat hook to attach the winch to the floor register hole.
