2004 Ultimate Advantage 400HP vs. 370HP

I am (hopefully) about to become the new owner of a 2004 UA 40K.
The 8.9L 400HP was on my MUST HAVES list until I came across this deal.
Can anyone explain why there are different HP ratings on JD Powers list of models, seemingly based off floorplans?
Example: 40E and 40k have 370HP and 400HP choices.

Meanwhile all Ultimate Freedom Floorplans only show 400HP

Then The Vectra has 330HP, 350HP and 400HP. which I assume is the CAT, 8.3L and 8.9L respectively.

Thanks, Greg

According to that model’s brochure the motorhome came with a Cummins ISL 8.9L Turbo 370 hp engine. There’s no mention of a 400 hp version or option regardless of floorplan .

When it comes to the Vectra, different HP options based on length and chassis. You didn't specify a year, but on my 04 there was a 330 hp Cat for the 36' model, but the 40' models had choices of 330 Cat w/wo ZF IFS front air and a 350 Cummin engine. I believe in 05 they added a 400hp option. JD just sort of lumps them all together.

Your best source of info is to get a copy of the sales brochure for the year/model you are interested in purchasing.

Thanks,
I have a sale pending for said UA and all indicators are that it is a 370HP but with JD, I was trying to 'create' a spark of hope that maybe there was a 400HP offered that didn't make it into the brochure.
Said coach seems to have every option (except the central vacuum so I thought maybe, just maybe it would have MORE POWER! Hahaha!

The Ultimate Advantage was indeed an "ultimate" motorhome 20-years ago. That's both a plus and minus in 2023. Lot's of things right and lots of things that can go wrong.

But, you've got the brochure now and that is the final authority on what that motorhome left the factory with.

If you're interested, this is the history of the Winnebago Ultimate series, the Advantage and Freedom(most expensive) was their top-of-the line luxury MH''s from 1999 - 2004.5 when W stopped production of this limited edition MH.
There were 483 built, and only select top selling Winnebago dealerships were allowed to sell them.

Winnebago used the 8.3 ISC Cummins only, until 2004. The ISC maximum HP was 370, so they used the 8.9 ISL interchangeably.

2004 Ultimate Advantage

Hi,

I own a 2004 Ultimate Advantage. I bought the coach in 2018 with 30,00o mikes and have since put about 50,000 miles on the coach. All in all it has been a good coach but not without some issues just like any other RV. If you ever have any issues you can always check with me to see if I have already come across that issue. Late Mfg Date UA 400 HP

We ordered our 04 Ultimate and a 400 HP was not an option, BUT we received a message through our dealer that at the end of the run they had excess 400 HP chassis available for a price I recall was very reasonable. Still have the coach, 55K miles stored indoors with HVAC and looks like new.
So there are legit 400 HP models on the road but rare. No regrets not having a Freedom, the UA has been perfect for us. As I recall the extras on the Freedom was more clear coat, wood blinds, and complicated heating system.
