Yes, there is a jump start lug under the hood. It has a red plastic cover that needs to be pushed back to reveal the actual stud.

Unless it's dead, install the new charger and let it do its job.

This is only a 1.5A battery maintainer. I've been told that the battery should be at full charge before using it, that it won't charge up the battery.

Not true. Yes it's only 1.5A but it's still a charger. if you can start the vehicle, the battery is fine. Hook it up and plug it in.

I should have been a little more specific. Right now we have to use the "Boost" switch to start the engine!

In THAT case I would boost start it, let it charge from the engine. Hopefully the battery isn't damaged from all the deadness.

Just wanted to give you an update on this problem.
The chassis battery is totally dead! With it disconnected I only read .75 VDC (3/4 volt) on the battery terminals. Putting a battery charger on it does nothing!
This MH is only 7 months old! Anybody had similar problems with the chassis battery in this model MH?

It is rare but I've seen it happen. The internal cell connectors break inside.
Did anyone twist the posts, trying to get the terminals off ?
It is common in freezing temps but not MS.

No, I don't think anyone has ever had the cover plate off before me. I used a socket wrench to loosen the nut on the clamp holding the negative cable and it slipped right off, so no pressure on the post.

You have murdered that battery. Replace it and don't let it happen again

Had you read the post from the beginning, you would know they are helping a neighbor who suffers the loss of her husband.
They did nothing but help.

Had YOU read the entire thread you would have seen that I responded more than once, so yes I know who is asking on behalf on whom. The battery is still dead...

I think Jeff meant that as a joke.

G'day Joe & Annette...
OK the drama continues.
It is NOT unusual for a Sprinter battery to crap out before its best used by date. This one seems a bit young.... But stuff happens.
In both my Sprinter RVs, I replaced the chassis battery about 2.5 - 3 years into their life cycle. They began to loose charge and one eventually croaked. It likely developed an internal fault.
And...remember...that chassis could have been built a year or more before it was upfitted to an RV. (A 15 RVs chassis could be a late 13....battery could be 3 years old.)
At this point...
Consolation? I replaced the RVs battery last month as it started loosing charge... Its just 3 years young. AND....Sudden, total battery failure on our 14 Sienna, purchased new a year ago, a week later. Go figure....
It may be covered under MB warranty and roadside assistance. But that is a lot of hassle....and you get another OEM Varta battery.
My solution was to skip the warranty. Get a better battery with a user friendly warranty (3/5 yr).
Get thee to Autozone and get a Duralast AGM. Probably $180ish.
Before installing it.... Put it on your maintainer and fully charge it. Or, install and fully charge before first use.
DO continue to use your maintainer.......
And Blessing upon you for helping your neighbor. You are a good man!

She is taking it to a Winnebago dealer about 70 miles away Wednesday. They are doing a recall, routine service, and hopefully replace the battery under warranty!
Thanks to all of you for you help!

Joe & Annette..... Please keep us informed about the issue with the battery. Inquiring minds want to know. I tuck these things away in my mental file...... hopefully.... not to be used by me.
Again, you are a good Man for helping your neighbor.

That is not uncommon for any battery. I had 2 on motorcycles that went our within months of purchase during cross country trips.
I always keep a voltmeter in the system to see any problems in the charging system.
