I'm sure that many of you have a set of these "Walkie Talkies" in a nice compartment at the base of the "dash". Very convenient when you want them, but I find that I use mine very, very seldom.
I'm too cheap to purchase the rechargeable batteries, and figure that charging standard batteries full time can not be a good idea and might lead to corrosion in the battery compartment, so I just install and remove the batteries when I use them.
Along with cheap, I'm also lazy and wonder if anyone out there has found a convenient spot to access the power source to disconnect it or perhaps install a switch? Looks like removal of the four screws would get to some wiring, but figured I'd ask first and perhaps get some confirmation.
I replaced the NiCad batteries with NiMH from Harbor Freight (watch for the sales and use the 20% off coupons). Charge the batteries overnight and replace back in the holder. They last a long time. When in storage with power remove the radios and place on dash.
