Craig, tech changes over the years. The OP and I have the older style awning and wind sensor on the roof. The newer ones have the sensor built into the end of the front roller tube.

Strangely, our Vectra Owners Manual says:

NOTE: The awning retract feature requires the Ignition Switch to be ‘ON’.
