Towing a 2108FBS

Newbie here, just wondering what you all use to tow a 2106/2108 FBS?

I have a 2013 Ford Explorer 4WD wondering if that would be sufficient.

Thanks!

Hello and welcome.

Is this a Sport or non-sport ?

The Sport has HP/Torgue(365/350) . The non-sport 290HP/255 (not a mountain goat).

What's the tow specs on your car ?

Chevy Tahoe, I had a Chevy Colorado when I bought the trailer but it just didn't seem to be enough for long trips, the Tahoe is just a little bigger than the Colorado and works great.

No issues with my 2011 Ford F-150 4WD with ECO or my 2017 Expedition 2WD.

I'm surprised I haven't seen this thread, but I doubt your Explorer is up to the task, but I'm not sure which generation your 2013 is. If it's the one where the Explorer is FWD when not in AWD, then almost certainly not.

My very first activity looking for a tow vehicle was going to a Ford Truck dealer (no cars) to look at F-150s and Expeditions in probably 2018. The salesperson there suggested I also look at Explorers. When I got home and researched the tow capacities of the Explorer I decided to throw that salesperson's card away. As I recall, they maxed out at 5,000 pounds, which doesn't leave much reserved, but I don't recall the payload limitations.

In contrast, when I bought my Chevy I had kept the salesperson's card and specifically sought her out when we went to buy two to three months. She provided useful information, for the most part.

I found the 2018 information, and the max hitch weight is only 500 pounds, which would also be a concern. It also gives other equipment information to get up to 5,000 pounds.

https://www.ford.com/cmslibs/content...lorer_Oct9.pdf

FWIW, I consider tow capacity ratings to be largely BS sales propaganda because there are other weights that would likely be exceeded before you get near the tow capacity limit. On my truck it's payload, but on the Explorer it would likely be tongue weight too since tongue weight should to 10-13% of the trailer weight.

Again though I don't know what generation the 2013 is.
