Diesel Generator Story
We bought a new 2018 View this past summer with the optional Diesel Generator. We loved the generator and used it regularly to run the A/C ( we live in Arizona). On our first long trip to the midwest this fall , the Diesel Generator quit working and threw a “Hi-Temp/Pressure” warning on the panel. Tried to restart, the gen kicked on for 5 seconds and then quit, still with the Hi-temp/Press code. Checked on-line and saw other owners had issues with the diesel gen temp sensor rod overheating. Did what they recommended—no change. Contacted an on-line technician ( a service offered by the dealership we purchased the View from) and went through my issue. He wrote back that I had done all I could at my end ( I had checked the oil level, the coach was level, the filters were in place, etc) and I needed to take it to an Onan Cummins shop.
We returned to Arizona without a generator (which worked out OK as we stayed each night hooked to shore power).
The dealership had our coach for three weeks. The techs kept experiancing the same issue we had on the road. They took the unit out, replaced the oil, replaced the oil and pressure sensors and still no luck. The dealership kept me up to date with their progress on the issue and even forwarded the emails between them and the Onan Cummins reps! Bottom line, the Onan Cummins rep recommended a complete replacement of the generator—(which had 21 hours on it). Yes, it was still under warranty and they were “obligated” to make it right, but it was nice to actually see it happen. I would like to think Cummins is tearing the generator apart to diagnose the actual problem so if it occurs to others they have a fix.
Just wanted to share a more “Positive” RV mechanical issue story—and yes, having our brand new RV in the shop for three weeks did seem like a long time!
