Main Awning will not retract.

I am in Santa Rosa, TX where we had 10 or 11 inches of rain.

Now I notice that I am unable to retract the Patio Awing on my 2007 Journey 36SG Motor-home.

I can hear a Clunk when I try to select retract or extend for the Patio Awning..
(The entry awing works perfectly.)

I have found where the sound comes from as I need someone to walk around and see where it is coming from.

I have not been successful in finding any diagrams to help me out.

Is your awning full of water from the rain? If so, you might have to get out there and figure out how to drain it off; the weight of the water might be interfering with operation of your awning. What brand is it?

It's dry. it is a Dometic WeatherPro Power Awning Product # 958427819 model # 815BS20.000R.

Are there any blinking lights on the control panel? I have heard of problems when the wind-sensor gets "flooded," which may have happened with the rain.

I suspected that.
I troubleshoot it by switching the power leads between the door awning and the patio awning.
I have determined that the 3310423.209B Dometic Awning Motor Assembly is bad.
A replacement part is $320.
For that price I will first try to repair it.

I removed a screw that held it to the mount on the end of the awning arm and was able to roll up the awning.

I have read that the equivalent motor can be bought for around $60. It's the same as a power window motor used in some cars or something. So see if you can find a cross-ref for the part number. Good luck to you.

I also know of an owner rebuilding his awning motor with new brushes, etc.

Similar Issue

I had this happen to me twice. In both cases I removed the screw and rolled the unit up by hand and used large zip ties to hold it in place. I believe these motors cannot handle being in the fully extended position for an extended period of time. It needs to be cycled often. I think the problem may be that when fully extended, the "cup" and the end of the support arm collects water and it rests against the motor seal. I haven't done it, but I have considered drilling a drain hole in the "cup" so water can't be trapped.

I will extend it to remove the motor and try to repair it.
