The steps on my 2000 Adventurer sag quite a bit when we enter or leave. Is there any remedy for this other than replacement of the whole unit?

I think a low cost fix would be an ajustable stair support.

The same thing happened on my 1999 Brave. The metal holding the steps had actually cracked around one of the mounting bolts. I had to use a hole saw to cut a hole from above to see it. I removed the steps, pounded the cracked area flat, welded the cracks and then welded a sheet metal plate overlapping the mounting holes on each side. The mounting bolts are tack welded to the sheet metal so just drill the new sheet metal with the same bolt hole pattern and a little larger than the bolts.

Welcome to the forum!! Check the cam stop adjustment. The Kwikee website has instructions. It's easy to do and took out all the sag in my steps. Good luck!

Roger, welcome back to the forum! I see it's been a few years since your 1st post.
We had a discussion about this 2 months ago. Many of the Winnie's have had problems with the step brackets tearing away from the metal supports. I had to reinforce mine as you'll see in this other thread.
Here's the link.
Good luck,

Rodger,
The problem is most likely the Winnebago step mount cracking where the mounting bolts are welded in place not the Kwikee step itself. Winnebago had to redesign the mount in 2004 to resolve this. The Winnebago designed solution is to remove the step, grind off the welded on mounting bolts and run two heavy c-channels above the mounting plate as a reinforcement. You will have to cut an access hole inside the coach in the bottom step after removing the rubber tread in order to access this area.
I have seen too many coaches made from 1997/98 through 2003/04 with this problem on dealers lots and the dealers deny that any thing is wrong when you ask them. I personally feel that they should have recalled them or at least sent out an owner notification on this one. If it is let go too long the bolts could suddenly pull all the way through and send whoever is on the steps flying to the ground. The chance of striking ones head and sustaining a severe injury or dying makes this somthing that Winnebago just should not have let go this long.
Lets face it, they had to have known about the problem over 4 years ago since they had already engineered and implemented the design change in 2004.
I fixed mine over a year and a half ago. The dealer assured me that nothing was wrong, it was safe and the bounce/sag was normal. Well he was right about the last part as just about all the coaches Winnebago built in that time frame have that defect.
Don't let it go too long.
Keep it safe.

Roger, I took my step problem to my local welding shop. They reinforced the steps, from below, minimal charge, minimal time and now they don't sag anymore.
After exploring all the avenues to fix them from the posts on this forum. I decided to let someone else do it...It was very easy...Be safe
PS: I agree with Neil
