Clamp it to the bench, pull it out by hand and then push it back. If it moves freely without any fittings on it then chances are you have a plugged orifice somewhere and you have just verified...

With the jack on the bench now and the solenoid remoced does it move freely or does it still require a ton of force? Take the solenoid and springs off and make this determination if you havn't...
