No the kit which is a basic3-2-1 kit is installed parallel to the Start and run circuit. It does not replace the start cap. Works great by the way as the compressor was immediatly quieter. A bad...

Just a side note, most home air conditioners do not have the hard start 5-2-1. The manufacturers took them out decades ago to save money on their end and also give a known failure of the start caps....
