It is rare but I've seen it happen. The internal cell connectors break inside.

Did anyone twist the posts, trying to get the terminals off ?

It is common in freezing temps but not MS.

If the Sprinter has a Boost solenoid, that is the perfect spot for a Tric-L-Start connections.

Access to both battery positive cables in one place.

I have read on here from a few owners that Sprinter chassis don't charge the start battery when plugged in.

The house batteries may have battery caps and the start battery may be maintance free....
