OEM 55w headlight bulbs vs. 100 w
Poking around some eBay listings for replacement headlight bulbs for my motorhome, which uses HB3 9005 (high beam) and 9006!(low beam) 55w bulbs, I found listings for 100w bulbs. Can these be readily used as replacement of the stock 55w bulbs?
Thank you. -RT

I know that arrangment will damage the front lens on a honda goldwing.. they get too hot. Not sure about your motorhome lens..

You will need to add a relay harness to the lighting system as the wiring is "just enough" as-is and the higher draw will melt connectors and burn out headlight switches.

On my fog lamps, I replaced the 55 w halogen with 100 w. They are now my best driving lights, way better than the stock high beams, but I have to switch them off so as not to blind the oncoming traffic.
My fog lamps are glass lens..... plastic will for sure melt. 100 watt bulbs don't seem to last very long either unless you happen to get a pair of real sturdy ones.

In 34 years in automotive repair , I had to deal with this issue ( melted wiring and connectors ) OFTEN.

Thank you all for the replies. Just what I needed to know: far more potential trouble than the value of the brighter bulbs. And I know first-hand just how difficult it is to remove the headlight assemblies from my specific model. Trying to remove and put them back in felt like Winnebago made the opening a half inch too small! -RT

It totally depends on the fixture. I used to run them in Hella headlight fixtures and they were FAR better than anything out there, and because the Hella reflectors and glass are highly polished and far more accurate than anything OEM, you could easily run the 100W lamps without bothering oncoming traffic. It's highly advisable to run them through an external power contactor though.
