I finally found it today. Mounted on the stalk is a chrome interval switch for the wipers to run intermittently. It has a tiny slide switch on its top edge. Once upon a time there were markings there...

Not that I noticed however I didn't look real close. There is floor mat that I'll be lifting up and checking. The floor area never occurred to me.

Thanks for the prompt response George. The turn signal stalk is the prime suspect however twisting it activates the wipers. Pushing it in sets the cruise control.
