My Manual says there is a freeze thermister located on the outside coil, it opens at 18 deg +/- 3 deg, and closes at 38 deg +/- 3 deg, actual coil temp.

I would let it run, it should shut down if the outdoor coil gets to cold.

The outside coil, along with the indoor coil, have separate circuits for each compressor. Your icing on the bottom half...
