Update......I found two things....the jacks work perfect if you spray them with a non-petrolium silicone spray...seals are really tight and stick...also, cut the inverter off at least 30 minutes...

Yes, parking brake is a must and motor should be running with shore power and generator off for slides to work properly. Of course the coach must be level.
