I would try this suggestion before anything else, at least that would tell you if it's just a matter of the labels being reversed. That would be the best possible outcome I think, you can fix that...

Not familiar with the MM trailers, but it sure sounds like you connected to the black tank flush port instead of the tank fill/city water port.
