Thanks for the reply... this is not the part that broke. The linkage attaches between two arms that are welded onto a long shaft that runs parallel to the step.

The long bar that the linkage connects to is where the weld snapped. I have looked at one end and I see what looks like a cotter pin but the whole end is covered with some kind of protective cover....
