On mine I just removed the motor, 2 long screws on the end. After disconnecting power at battery, removing hot wire from motor, loosen hose clamp. I left solenoids in place.

I had my 2003 unit rebuilt in Bullhead City, AZ at a starter place for about $90, same day service. Turned out it was a corroded ground connection inside the case.
