My hot water heater quit putting out ANY WATER on the hot side of Kitchen and Bath faucets. I posted it in the Tech section but am just trying to draw attention to it here because I know it doesn't belong in this forum.
Thanks and Happy New Year

If your water heater quit putting out water, the most logical place to look would be to check the position of the water heater by-pass valve.

Your problem is probably one of the check valves at the heater inlet or outlet. I have had the same problem three times and in all cases the keeper has come of the spring in the check valve. The valve is cheap,7 or 8 dollars but in a bad place to change.

Where are the check valves and how do they bypass the water heater? Our water is luke warm some times and acceptably warm other times. It is never hot but is hot at the water heater.

Here's a web site that shows the parts for the two types of water heaters.
http://www.marksrv.com/#w
You can check there for check valves and screens that might plug.

The check valve are either brass or plastic fittings that screw into the water heater inlet and outlet openings. Inside is a valve with a spring and keeper. They are in the back side of the tank where the water line enters and exits .

How do you get to the check valve? Do you have to remove the dog house?

Hi All,
Just replaced the input check valve on our Attwood water heater. (see Photos in Photo section). Our coach is just two years old and both valves failed. The keepers came off the plungers. Very poor design!! The water input valve at the bottom lost the plunger and O-Ring into the water heater. The water output valve at the top lost just the keeper into the water heater. Both springs were retained in the valve bodies. Since both the plastic and the O-Ring are heavier than water, I assume the parts will just lay on the bottom of the heater till the Attwood gets replaced. Since it was the output valve failure that caused the no flow situation, and I can't really see why two check valves are needed, I just reinstalled the old valve body minus all internal parts into the tanks output fitting. The input fitting is at the bottom and is easier to get to. Problem is, I may not know when or if the valve ever fails again. Presumably, with no valves, hot water could gravity circulate into the cold lines. Not sure if this would be a problem though.
