Driving while slides open
Well we learned from a regional manager under oath that if your slides are malfunctioning you can safely drive the vehicle with them open as long as they aren't extended past the mirrors. Who knew this whole time I could have had that extra space while traveling.

Nothing I'd even attempt to do. Under oath, his fingers had to be crossed.

Wouldn't believe it for a second until I had it on company letterhead, and even then maybe not.

Perhaps he meant around the parking lot and not down the freeway. I can't think the designers planned on highway travel with slides out.

If you could activate the slides to move out fast enough while going down the highway you would have an air brake!! WOW, what won't they think of next!!

Check the road rules- our motorhomes are already at max highway width-you can't drive them any wider.

Good thinking. Could have used that stopping power on some mountain passes. Bet the awning flying open would add to the stopping power as well.

I already done that with b-room slide. Stripped gears so released brake to push in ,but did not reset the brake lever. I could be seen traveling south bound on US-101. Just one of many screw-up's

Better yet, when some annoying driver tries to pass in a dangerous situation you could deploy slide to caution them not to pass -- sort of like a folding stop sign on a school bus.

Another great idea! Maybe put caution yellow and black stripe tape that says pass at your own risk.....EXTRA WIDE LOAD.

Yep. Funny how many times someone ask "can.." instead of "should.."
Yeah, you CAN bungi jump without a cord... once.
Yeah, you CAN fill your gas cans while smoking... once.
Yeah, you CAN eye the coed in the bikini while your wife sits with you at the beach... once.
and the list goes on.

My friend, a winni owner, was in Iowa when his curb side slide would not retract. He called for help and was told he could and did drive 50 plus miles at 55 mph on the expressway to a dealer that did the repair.
His only problem was ,all the people pulled up beside him, making faces, yelling, point ect. He stopped and taped a sign on the driver side ( Yes I know the D**$#* slide is out).

Perhaps have your co-pilot drive the toad with a set of magnetic towlights on top blinking and the hwy patrol will think you are one of those escorted wide loads? Don't forget the yellow and black sign for the rear bumper.

The key phrase in the under oath statement was "Beyond the mirrors" This means if they are out say 1 or 2 inches, no problem, but if they are out say 8-10 inches (or more) your mirrors no longer work.
MOST slides can be manually forced in to the point where the mirrors work till you can get ye to a repair place.... I know.. Have done it, Several times. (Actually, I got mine in all the way, and fixed them at the next stop, only takes me about 15-30 minutes dependign on how badly (How many bolts) broken). But even a bad motor I could force them in.

Welcome to the "Screw-up Club"! I've been an active member since 2010! LOL
Like my Momma always used to say...."It's all fun and games till someone loses a slide"!
