I just talked to Winnie in Forest City about replacing the drivers side of my windshield on my Meridian. I caught a stone on the I70 in SD and it quickly turned into a 10" crack that started on the right middle edge. It cracked in about 4" then turned and is running straight up.

My MH policy has a $500 deductable, but at those prices I may make the claim. That sounded pretty steep for HALF of a windshield. Anyone have a windshield replaced recently?

Yep, thats what I (insurance) paid ($900) for each side on the Journey. Replaced the drivers side in '06 and the passengers side in '07. Thank goodness Florida insurance has no deductable on windsheilds.

If you think thats bad... My son's brand new Toyota FJ Cruiser got a rock from a gravel truck. New windshield $1200

Wow, that should make me feel better, but somehow it just doesn't.....................

Where do you go to get them replaced?

I just got back from a trip and got both cracked. You got to love the road construction on I40 & I25

Thank God, after reading this, I opted for the full glass coverage with my insurance company.

I have cracks in both sides of my windshield. Once was from a rock meeting someone. It took 3 weeks before it showed.

The other one we were sitting parked for the summer, and I looked out, and noticed the other side.

Here is our recent windshield saga.

GS-DP Windshield Replacement

Our deduct. was $250 and the parts (both windshields, factory bonded L/R gasket, factory locking strip), shipping and installation was around $2200 I think.

It was a glass destruction derby after our 2006 Alaska trip. Had chips in the driver's side coach glass, passenger glass had a 12-14" long crack. Factory service billed State Farm for about $1200 for right-side glass as I recall. Jeep had two nice "L" shaped cracks - replaced at rally grounds by a mobile glass tech while the coach was in the shop.

The beautiful thing about being registered in Florida with Florida insurance is -zero- deductible

for glass replacement.

PS: Jane managed to hit (no fault of hers) a Turkey Vulture this spring in the windshield so the Jeep has yet another new windshield. Aside from some glass shards in the front seats, all was well.

A year ago June 1/2 the windshield for our Ultimate was $750 for the glass, plus shipping costs and labor costs. As I recall, we ended up somewhere around $2,500 for both by the time the job was over.

Wow, that just seems like a heck of a lot of money for glass. Guess I'm just old school. I thought of paying for it myself, figuring that it would be about $500. Boy was I off..........

Just kiddin, glad you were well.

Sarge, are you sure it's not fixable. I got a 10' crack in the driver windshield on my way back from Alaska. It started as a crack and just kept getting bigger. Impact was on the top of the windshield just below the rubber and started going south. I found a repair guy who could stop the crack from getting bigger if it was less than 12'. He drilled a hole almost at the end of the crack and filled it in with some resin, let it set and bingo. It's been almost a year and crack hasn't gotten any bigger.

I know some day eventually I'll have to change it but meanwhile I'll use the money for my trips.

Just an idea if it works.

Actually I called a repair guy from a national chain. He had a shop nearby in Sioux Falls SD. I explained the crack and he said that he could fix it, but because it was started from the edge of the glass he would almost guarantee that it would continue to crack. He said he could do it for $80-$100 but it probably wouldn't hold.

In early March, our driver side was replaced for $1300. We have a $100 deduct but the person whose pick up broke it, insurance reimbursed us.

SargeW: You just started to fulltime; well you got the windshield story now, you're both OK, now go out and have fun.

Wow bebop, actually catching and getting the guy to pay for it was amazing.

Thanks Gary, but it's not even a good story! I never even heard the rock strike. We were on a strech of I70 that was under construction and had been repaved. Smooth as silk, brand new and no one in front of us. I happened to glance down and saw the crack. A little bit later it started to grow. Oh well, go figure. Like you said, take care of it and move on.
