We got this 2017 WD-1780 last fall and took a couple of successful trips. In the off season I decided to redo the aesthetics both interior and exterior.
The inside was pretty straight forward. We primed and painted everything (except the bathroom). I went with a two toned color scheme with a piece of molding to break it up. In the bed area I initially put wallpaper in. It was self adhesive but it kept falling down, I tried securing it with wallpaper glue and it still fell down so I ended up putting a gold stencil up which worked much better although it was a bit of a pain due to the wall being curved - re-positionable spray adhesive worked great. I replaced the plastic kitchen bath and outdoor shower fixtures and sprayers with metal. I made new cushions and upholstery. I replaced the shades with custom bamboo with blackout lining. I replaced several of the lighting fixtures and will probably end up replacing the rest…other than tearing out a section of wall and ceiling to replace some water damage that’s pretty much it inside
The exterior was sunbaked- additionally, I just generally hate camper graphics. I used every trick in the book to get the old graphics off. I used a vinyl graphics removing gel, that worked mediocre on a lot of it but some was fused with the fiberglass, mainly the white sections. I finally used a graphics eraser which is pretty much like eraser material on a disk that you can mount in a drill. This whole process was slow, messy and frustrating. Anyway, I did that over the course of a couple of weeks.
After that I handed it over to a pro. Justin Butts (instagram - @mute0n ) painted this mural for me that we LOVE. It gets a lot of attention. That took a few weeks to put on, then finally I coated it with a mural UV protector that should keep it vibrant for 10+ years.
We are big music festival lovers so we are getting it kicked off on Memorial Day. Hope we see y’all out there…you can’t miss us, haha- say HI.
