Which roof sealant

Was up on the ladder to look at my slide out covers after a wind storm and saw that the seam from the roof line to the sides is cracked and pulling away in more than a few places. I am thinking of using the Dicor non-sag sealant to fix these seam issues. Two questions:

1) Should I remove the failed caulking or caulk over them?
2) How can I determine how many tubes to buy? The motor home is 37' long.

Osgoor,
Just go to Home Depot and buy some Henry's 212 caulk from the roofing section. It is the USA version of the Henry thermoplastic that Winnebago buys from Canada. If Dicor is a silicon it is not recommended for fiberglass roofs. One tube should do you. Two if you were to replace all the caulking.
It is always better to pull out the old caulking but you don't have to pull out any that is obviously doing its job. I use a small bent "hook" (looks like an awl that has been bent 90 degrees) to get under the caulking and pull it up. If it pull right out then you can typically pull out 6 to 8 inches or more. But, if it only tugs back, then leave it and spread a thin layer over the top of it. (If you already have a bunch of layers over the top, then pull them out.) Or, in other words, pull it out were you see the cracks but go back in four or five months to see if you have other cracks. Just take your time. It is not a hard project; just takes some patience and time.

You can download just about everything you need to know about your RV from Winnebago's website. They list the recommended sealants to use and I think what you are looking for is a sealant/adhesive if I understand your question correctly. It holds the roof onto the RV. I removed the old and replaced on both sides and it is quite a bit of work removing. Be careful not to scratch the gel coat and paint.

If you need clear caulk ( as in painted side/partial roof) you might have trouble trouble getting the sealant. i tried several places including the local WB dealer, in fact they listed a silicone sealant. I ended up using geocel clear for RVs, forgot now what its called but its not a silicone, does not collect dirt and is flexible.
I used one tube for both sides....
Just remembered the name....proflex..comes in white and clear..most RV places have it..

You may want to check out Manus-Bond 75-AM. It is a paintable elastomeric adhesive/sealant. It should be available at most RV dealers but may have to be ordered. Several tubes will be required to do both sides.

did you consider eternabond tape? tape it once and forget it.
use the search format at the top of this page and you will find that many irv2 members have used this product and are happy with it. you will also find how too's with pictures.
