What is the difference between Winnebago and Itasca? Comparing some of the models of class C's the Itascas are a little higher MSRP.

Not a thing...They are built side by side in the assembly line. Itasca will include standard items that are options in Winnebago, but the final MSRP is the same.....

I have been told the reason for the branding, is that you can have a Itasca dealer in the same territory as a Winnebago dealer.

FrontRanger is correct. There are some small things that are Itasca unique in some models. The interiors are decorated differently frequently.

When we bought our 2003 Suncruiser we also looked at the Winnebago version, the Adventurer. 99% of the coach is identical but the Itasca had a few more features as standard that were options on the Winnebago. If you added in these options on the Winnebago, it got pretty close to the Itasca pricing.

Also, the Suncruiser had a more upscale interior than the Adventurer. However, the upscale was not a better "quality" interior, it was just a bit more "decorated". Naturally, decor ideas vary from one person to the next so "upscale" is highly subjective and you may prefer the Winnebago decor. Qualitywise, they're both the same.

What made the difference for us was the dealers. Our nearby Winnebago dealer was pretty much a joke while the Itasca dealer was a grade A dealer. Seeing as how the coaches were so very similar, the difference in dealerships made it a no brainer. I'd keep that in mind when you search because a dealer who can give you great service is worth their weight in gold.

A good simple way to think of Winnebago and Itasca is to think Ford and Mercury.

There are small trim differences. The Itasca Horizon has hidden cabinet hinges and pull-out shades for the Fantastic vents. Several things are standard on the Horizon that are optional on the Vectra, the shower seat is one that comes to mind. There might be different color and decorating schemes but I haven't compared them.

That's pretty much it as far as I know.

When we were at the factory this March I asked Mark about the origin of the Itasca sub-brand. He said it was a corporate reaction years ago to wanting to use a different chassis other than Dodge with whom they had a contractual obligation for all Winnebago motorhomes. So problem solved - create another brand and pick your chassis.

Sort of like the difference between a Chevy and a Buick. Trim and stand features are the differences. So pick what you like the best.

I personally heard Don Hertzke (who was president or CEO at that time )state that the Itasca line was more upscale and innovative, meaning that Winnebago tested many of the new features and colors, etc., in this line prior to sometimes introducing it into the Winnebago products.( Itasca has fewer units and dealerships) The other members of this forum who have commented are correct, especially in that the pricing is somewhat higher as more options are standard equipment.

As a side, some of the Winnebago dealers have expressed some slight dissatisfaction that many times Itasca gets the "goodies" first.

Not ture. The Itasca line comes with many features that are not available on the Winnebagos at any price. Such as the Shurflo 5.7 variable speed water pump.

In '05 the Winnebago's were using the dated gold toned fixtures. Itasca was using the more stylish nickle silver toned.

I was referring to the Adventurer/Suncruiser line.

When my 5.7 froze I stopped at Bill Waits RV. They had to order a 5.7 beacuse they only sold the Winnebago line. After waiting fot 3 days they asked me if it would be OK to remove a pump from a new Winnebago and install it in my coach. I said fine. They checked the Winnebago's they had in stock including the '05 Vectras and none came with the 5.7. Possibly they were lieing to me.

Tom N: All things are possible. All I can tell you is that I rdered my coach built with the options I specified. Maybe they had one on the line with some of those items that were considered "optional".

Made a call to Winnie and found out they do not have a direct item for item comparison for their Itasca to Winnebago Line of MH's. I cannot believe this to be true or why would they have the Itasca line anyways? Tom N brought a good line item comparision for the 04 Vectra/Horizon, maybe someone can find one for an 06 Vectra/Horizon.

The Vectra/Horizon comparison for 2004 came from a printed sheet that Winnebago gave me at the 2003 Harrisburg RV Show. So, at least, for the 2004 indroductory year they had a comparison.

I would say speak to an Itasca dealer or rep. They will want to show up their product over the Winnebago line.
