Warm Restart Check Engine Light on 2003 Journey 32T

I have the same problem as alamon. 2003 Journey 32T 300hp 5.9 Check Engine light come on if restarted after engine has been at normal temp. Any solutions?

I'm not seeing what problem you have.
What do you mean "same problem as alamon"? Is that a person from some post or possibly misspelled in some way?
When you say the code reader is no help, we get very little info from that. What codes did you get or did you get none, etc. ?
We need some basic info to start.

Alamon is a user that had the same problem as me.

2003 Journey 32T 5.9 Cummings. Cold start everything is good can go all day. Warm start if temp is above 1/4 on guage the check engine light comes on. The code is get is 2003 15. The Cummins rep told me that is a place holding code that has no exact meaning

I know from my mechanic that Cummins has proprietary code reading software and standard code readers won’t necessarily work. He uses an actual laptop computer that connects to Cummins. I would look for a local shop with a mechanic who knows Cummins specifically and uses their software. Freight liner would work but they tend to be very expensive.

I have the same MH, same year. I had an intermittent check engine light that would come on at startup. I had a local Truck/RV shop check it and it turned out to be the turbo charger. That engine has a VGT, Variable Geometry Turbo, it has a controller on the side that changes the pitch of the turbo blades depending on load, etc. The controller can fail, but in my case the turbo itself was stuck so had to replace the whole unit. The primary reason this happens is carbon buildup in the turbo from excessive idling. While I never let it sit and run, I don't know what previous owners may have done, I've had the coach for 10 years. Cummins wanted over $6k for the part, I was able to get one from a supplier in New York for around $4500 and the shop replaced it with that unit. Hopefully that's not your problem but like JR314 said, find a local independent shop that is familiar with Cummins and have them check it.

Unfortunately, I had a similar problem with the VGT. I had to replace my turbo also and was able to get it done by a small, local shop for much cheaper than Freightliner. I don’t know if that’s what this particular check engine light is signaling, but it’s very possible based on many of our experiences. I have a 2004 Journey 32T with the Cummins 5.9. I also believe it was due to excessive idling from previous owner, which was common and even recommended for diesel engines prior to all of the emissions equipment added. I idle at high idle long enough to get air built up and then I go. I hope to get plenty of life out of my current turbo.

Interesting. My previous coach was a 2003 Horizon 32T, loved that little tank. The previous owner had replaced the turbo, I didn't know why. The owner before him did lots of idling from his notes on his driving patterns. You never know?

Sometimes when you turn the key on even after it’s warmed up give it a few seconds then start it and if the light stays on shut it off and start it again that’s what I do I have a 2003 34hd
