Upgrades

While the coach has been sitting, I have been doing a few interior upgrades:

Added backsplash to kitchen and bathroom counters. I ordered the matching material from Vendura who was the OEM for the solid surface tops. Very satisfied with results:

Then I added wainscotting to the corner near the LR slide and the wall under lounge window. Used oak veneer plywood and solid oak trim for base and chair rail:

Also fabricated a solid oak replacement for the particle board and vinyl flip-up shelf. Much more sturdy and attractive:

Still considering replacing the carpet with laminate flooring.

I really like your backsplash. I would like to do the same in my kitchen. When you ordered the material from Vendura, did they bevel the edges or was that something you had to do?

My 2005 Suncruiser came from the factory with this backsplash.

I gave Vendura the measurements for the pieces I needed. They did all the finishing...radius edges, etc. Although, you can easily work the material with a router or roto-zip.

I did have to cut one piece to accomodate switches in the bath...very easy to do with a carbide tip blade on my miter saw. Sanded the cut edges and it looks great.

Looks fantastic. Where did you get the oak panelling to match? What was the thickness? Any problems securing to walls?

I got the panels from Lowe's....standard 1/4" oak veneer available in 2' X 4' sizes. I used my table saw to cut shallow groves in the finished side every 4 inches to make it look more like individual boards. The panels and the solid oak used in the trim and the fold-down shelf are finished with satin polyurethane...pretty much a perfect match for the oak in the motorhome.

I attached the panels and trim with Liguid Nails construction adhesive and a brad nailer. I used a stud finder to locate any 120VAC lines in the wall near the recliner to make sure I didn't put a brad in an electric line.

Looks great. Wish you were closer so I could take advantage of you-ha. My coach has one broken sink cover (the big one) and was quoted over $100 to make another (from Mobility RV). How much was the splash guard? Must have been a small fortune.

You might want to call Mike O'Connell at Vendura to see what they would charge to make a replacement sink cover for you. The material for both the kitchen and bathroom was about $200 including shipping from Wisconsin.

Richard, I have two of the large sink covers replaced thru Winnebago both times they were over a 100 dollars. A cup fell outta the cabinet first time and the wife set a jar of jelly down hard the second time. Sorry but that is the going price. Gorilla Glue works well to hold it back together...I have a new one "stored" for a more serious break..Try Lichstinn Motors, but I think you'll find their price about the same...Good Luck

That looks real, real nice Gary. I am extremely anxious to get my shop set up so I can have the ability to do some of the same. I have several house projects waiting on the shop and I'm bound to think of a couple for the coach.

I can't remember if we have a backsplash of mirrors or both - I'll have to take a look.

I hear you John. My 'projects' are part of my 'therapy.' I do administrative work all day and making some sawdust in the off time is therapeutic.

I was going to do ceramic tile as backsplash but didn't find anything locally (without special ordering something) that turned my crank. So, decided to just use the same material as counters....no regrets. DW and I did not want mirrors.

Very nice job on all of the upgrades. Looks like the coach came with them. I have also been considering the backsplash in my coach. I have already upgraded the TV up front to a flatscreen and am in the process of doing the bedroom. Will have to check out the cost of the backspash material for my unit.
