Lately is seems many members start their thread with two words or worse sometimes just one word.

Take a little time and give your thread a title that helps explain the issue or problem and what model you are talking about.

"Slide Out" is not enough information.

And when you compose your post it's super helpful if you think to anticipate the responses you'll receive asking for more information - Year, Model, Floorplan (which you should put in your Signature!). plus the steps you took or tried.

The more info the more people can get right to helping. And the more you put in your thread title the more you'll attract responses from those in the know.

Thanks!
Stay Healthy Everyone

I would agree with that advice.

For the posts that do not comply, you can hover over the link and see several of the first words--but only if you're in the forum--that doesn't work for the "recent posts.". But yes, descriptive titles are the way to go!

Here I was expecting something more like:

  • Locked Box
  • Death Panels
  • Well, Nuts
  • Hakuna Matata
  • No Text
  • Strategery

Editing and/or adding tags is also helpful, especially with respect to future readers who may be searching for an answer.

BobC, I don't know of any tagging setup on this software on this forum. I know it's a function at other forums. Perhaps you know something I don't. If so please point it out. Where are you seeing "tagging" options or results?

Check out post #18 of this thread: https://www.winnieowners.com/forums/f62/forum-101-posting-photos-and-accounts-help-349894.html

The tags are clearly visible at the bottom of the above thread, but I don't see them at the bottom of this one. Maybe something has changed.

Nope... no tags visible to me. Humm I wonder if I have some option turned off.

Perhaps it's for "supporters" only??

Here's what I see:

First, I should have said Post #16 instead of #18. The tags are at the bottom of the thread, not the post, just above the "Reply" box. In the above case, the tag is "Forum".

Here's a current example: https://www.winnieowners.com/forums/f274/sewer-hose-storage-357060.html#post3861194

In this case, the tag is "storage", which isn't very helpful, hence my recommendation to edit them to something meaningful.

Maybe this "Two Words" thread doesn't have any tags since it didn't match anything in a database.

Thanks. I see it now. I've run forums for 20+ years (I started my first forum in 1999) and I was never a fan of nor very interested in tags on any of my forums. So, i don't really pay attention to them. I had an "Auto Tagging" feature setup on my forums but I never had a sense that anyone was using them. Perhaps they were and I was oblivious.

I'm happy to have been of help. I discovered them only because I was frustrated by searching on something like "house batteries" and getting posts on transmissions or some other, totally irrelevant, topic.

Tagging is set up here and there is some automated tagging as well. I agree about well formed thread titles however. They are most helpful for those searching for content and also appear in google searches, newsletters, articles etc.

A thread title that reads "help" is pretty useless. A better option is: Help - Locked out of rig.
