Tow hitch drop 2023 Adventurer 35F

I have a 2023 Adventurer 35f. I use a tow dolly to tow a small pickup. The owners manual says a max 4 inch drop on the hitch. When I use a 4 inch drop I still have dragging of the tow dolly ramps on rough roads. How can I fix this issue? Will it be a problem to use a hitch with a bigger drop?

I cannot advise you to do as I do… but I use a 10” drop adapter on my 2017 Adventurer. I do check the hitch receiver regularly and the drop, too. I did see some signs of wear on the drop after a few years and replaced it with a new one out of caution. But so far, it’s been OK.

Again, I am not saying it’s OK to ignore the 4” drop guideline. But I felt this was better than the way my towbar (I flat tow) looked out of level with the 4” drop.

The third post of the Good Sam forum thread, below, addresses this issue in terms of Winnebago's perspective. I suggest you read it in it's entirety and make your own decision as to whether or not the risk is prohibitive in your situation. The poster describes a phone call with Winnebago during which Winnebagos 4" maximum drop hitch position is discussed. Here's an excerpt:

"I spent several hours on the phone with a factory rep discussing this very situation. The company position was formulated after several incidences where longer drop hitches were used pulling either a vehicle or a trailer without auxiliary braking systems. In a panic stop situation the added leverage of the longer drop in combination with the lack of auxiliary braking systems caused the hitch to either fold under the frame or be torn from its mounts."

With emphasis on the words "without brakes" in that GS post. I think all tow dollys have brakes, or use the towed car's braking system..

I used a 10" drop Gen-Y Torsion Hitch on my 2018 27N. Yes, I know, very expensive, so not a practical choice for every situation. However, very well engineered. I was towing an aluminum car hauler with my jeep on the trailer and running just under the 5K limit for the hitch. The engineering of the hitch was important to me. My double axle car hauler had brakes on both axles. Just FYI and perspective.
