Hello all! I just wanted to introduce myself as I get started in this forum. I'm TOTALLY NEW to all things camper. My partner and I just sort of impulse purchased a new2024 Micro Minnie 1720FB while we were helping his parents pick out a larger, more permanent rig to replace their truck camper. We were looking for a reasonably-priced USED tow-behind camper and long story short, we ended up taking an offer we couldn't refuse on this new (even though it's a 2024) Micro Minnie. We actually wanted something very small and lacking a slide out, so while this floor plan likely isn't popular, it works for us for a first camper. I'm super excited about it, but of course we have owned it for exactly a week now and quickly realized how VERY MUCH there is to learn, which is why I'm here! Note that my partner is very mechanical and he lived on boats his whole childhood, so he's going to be the one fixing things when they break, and making the upgrades we need.
Our goal is to get it off grid and bulletproof (metaphorically bulletproof I mean) so we can spend time in very remote areas. We aren't anywhere near retired, but my partner does shift work, so every other week he has 4-day mid-week weekends. I work remotely. We plan to adventure semi-locally as much as possible and then take maybe two weeks-long trips per year. The goal is to not wait until we are older to enjoy life--and also learn as much now so that when we CAN retire, we know what we are doing!
You may notice my username--it's what we named the camper. Yes, I know Winnie the Pooh has an H at the end. That was left off on purpose. I'm a cancer survivor, and having had what is called "the mother of all surgeries" nine years ago, I have some lingering issues. I usually need to fast when traveling, as access to a toilet is never guaranteed. That was the other reason for this lifestyle choice: allowing me to explore the world and know I'll always have a Winnie in which to...you know. Poo.
Happy to (virtually) meet all of you, and feel free to tell me things I should be both excited and scared about as we begin this new season of life!
