Tire pressure

Just got new tires(toyos) the place that put them on suggest higher pressure than Winnebago. Winne says 82, they say 100, whose is right?
This is for a 2015 vista 27n.
 
I'm no tire expert but I would go with the advice of your tire dealer. If your RV had Michilins from the factory, there is a good chance that the Toyos aren't exactly the same size. I had the Michilins replaced with Toyos, just last month and the sizes are different. They are the same diameter and load range but slightly different widths. I have a 2012 Itasca Suncruiser 37F.
 
Did you get RV weighed when fully loaded? Best thing is to get weighed and then based on weight inflate according to Toyo weight chart + one line higher. This way tire will wear flat and you wont get as hard of a ride
 
Mine are around 85-86, but 100 would absolutely suck. The dealer had mine set to 95 and first trip was ****, bad ride and wondering all over the road. Went to the sticker 82 +5% and have been happy with that.
 
The Federal Tire Placard states the minimum air pressure to safely support the maximum GVWR of each axle. There is no instance where that must be exceeded EXCEPT if the tires are not the original size.
 
I replaced my steer tires with Michelin Agilis HD Z and the tire dealer put 110 PSI into them, I was concerned this was too much so downloaded the tire inflation vs load table from Michelin and figured it out for myself.

Michelin recommended pressure vs. load is higher than the G670s, but not as high as what the tire dealer inflated them to. Table said: 3750 lb @ 85 PSI, 3925 lb @ 90 PSI. So, for these tires I am running them cold pressure between 85 and 90 PSI.

Bottom line, I'd check for yourself and not assume the tire install technician looked up the table on the tire maker's web site and matched it to the max loaded weight for your tire locations.

It would be nice, if you give maxload and referencepressure( or loadrange), of old and new tires.

Then together with the weiged loads, we can calculate the needed pressure with maximum reserve, at wich comfort and gripp still acceptable.

Im really surprised no-one has posted this, so I had better. the ONLY place you want to follow the max tire pressure is *on the tire itself*. Tires are not the same, even if they are the same size. If it tells you max pressure is 80PSI, never exceed that, as long as it still feels solid on the road. If it rides too rough with the max, you can go down , say, 15% at most from that. But on RVs, you usually want the 10 ply truck tires, and those are built to take the max pressure and really, that's where you need to be to drive safely.

Good plan. I may be the only Tire Design and Forensic Engineer following this this thread so I am sure there are many readers who feel they know more about proper tire inflation than I do based on things they "heard" while sitting around a campfire.
Knowing the actual load on each axle when the RV is fully loaded to the heaviest you ever expect to be, is the BEST and ONLY way to start learning YOUR minimum PSI. I have a blog focused on tires in RV usage and 50 years experience with tires. You might check it out RVTireSafety.Net I will watch for your post of the scale readings for each axle. It will help if you include the complete tire size and Load Range info on your tires.

Well I agree sort of. The tag next to the drivers seat has the recommended tires AND the pressure for those tires. I my case 80 PSI cold. 2012 vista 26P
I set them about 76.
 
I wonder why you are setting your tires 4 psi Low? The Certification Label you are reading is providing the PSI needed to support the GAWR. I trust you have had your rig on truck scales when the RV was fully loaded to the heaviest it will ever be and you learned your tires are all under the GAWR shown on the Certification label.

Tire pressure in tables and on tires is ALWAYS the COLD pressure. Glad to hear that you are running a relatively light weight with your RV.

The determined needed pressure for the load and speed, is cold pressure, and the pressure-rising by heatproduction by driving is taken into account by the tire- and car-makers.
So if you determined 80 psi to be needed, its 80 psi cold, and not warm, as you asume.
 
Anyone who determines tire pressure by how they ride is asking for trouble. If you have a heavy RV, expect the ride to be a little rough. It isn't a Cadillac. (Even though it cost more)
