That smell

Since you mentioned it's your first trip after I picked up my MH in California on the way home (over 2300 miles) it started to stink and I thought it was propane I had it checked out and all it turned out to be was the cheap deodorant they gave us with it, the shop put some of the brand they liked in it and the smell when away.

Every so often after 3/4 full I can get a whiff and it goes away with a little more deodorant until I can get it dumped.

Is it possible it is coming from your sewer hose. Do you leave the hose ends open when stored? Do you leave your hose connected to the sewer ground pipe with the gray valve open?

Good stuff, thanks for the tips... Definitely a "sewer" smell, plus I replaced the house batteries before the trip with a couple of T-105's. Installed a Cyclone Sewer Vent last night. Will check the washer vent & the other sink vents. The dump center connections all appear good, as do the rubber connectors.

Now I just need some poop in the tank to test if the Cyclone vent worked!

I think you're on your own with that one :)

Has anybody ever installed one of these solar driven active vents?

I suspect they work great during the daytime, but a night (no solar) your back to the same issue and in fact may restrict the vent more if not running.
I wonder ...I suspect they are actually battery powered with a solar charger ...if so, the fan would continue to run for hours during the night, in the rain, etc

We had the same problem with odors from the black water tank. The first message was our problem - the vent line had come out of the black water tank. Had to remove both tanks, clean and sanitize the compartment, then reinstall the tanks - both black and gray. There is supposed to be a clamp that holds the vent line and attaches to the floor of the motorhome. The factory did not install it when the coach was built.

There is a cover on the opposite side of the coach from the water and dump connection compartment. After removing all of the screws, you can remove the cover and clearly see the vent lines entering the holding tanks.

Hope this helps.

Try looking for dead rodents in areas out of sight that filter through from the basement to the living area.

I have installed them on my last 2 rigs and the sewer smell has gone away. I don't know if I never parked with "no wind" or the wind is the cause of the oder w/o the Cyclone.

Thanks. A lot of stinky experience on this forum! Installed a cyclone vent. Will double check under sink vacuum breakers and washer-dryer trap if smell persists.

Ok, call me dumb, but I can't find the washer/dryer drain. There are no adjacent removable panels. I guess I could just try to pull the unit out and see?

Use the washer. It will fill the p-trap if it is empty causing the oder.
