Members discussed Starlink raising the standby fee from $5 to $10 per month, after it had reportedly been free about a year earlier. Several RVers said the $5 fee was tolerable for seasonal or backup use, but $10 made them consider canceling service and reactivating only when needed.

Some members noted other Starlink plan costs have also increased, while one member said their bill still showed $5 until others clarified the change takes effect on or after the June 18 billing cycle. Questions...

Yep and most of the other monthly fees have gone up too.

I just have a Starlink Mini on Standby for the few times that my two cellular data plans don’t have service. Which is very rare. I figure I’ll just cancel Starlink and signup the next time I need it.

They could have increased it $1-$2 and we’d all just go along with it. But no, they had to double it. So dumb.

Have we all noticed it is now free for all to jump the prices?
I had decided the Rv was getting to be more trouble than wanted, so went motel/hotel only to find my favorites have juped the price some 40+ percent! Pretty much the same as happened when the last "energy crisis" hit!

Try having a diesel RV....

Well, maybe there was a bit of reason I deferred getting back in that game? If we pay attention to history, we can occasionally see trends and the current situation seemed to be a logical thing to avoid if I could!
I do have a trip planned for this summer and it IS going to cost me fully double what it would a couple years back but over the long haul and considering how little we would be using an RV currently, it really gets unlikely we will go for the RV again.
We got out of the RV world for a few years back when this sort of silliness came around and gas went to 1.54 a gallon. But that was a different situation and expected to be temporary, while this is not likely to pass any time soon enough for it to be rational for our RV use!
I no longer plan any business travel if expenses are not on some other ticket and my personal travel is much cheaper even with inflated air fare!

I was bummed to see this as well. I have a full-service package at my house, and that also went up. The great appeal of the mini was standby for many months when not camping; usually November - March for me. I was willing to stomach the $5 surcharge for this (added about a year ago) and then pleasantly surprised to see the 50gb per month plan limit raised 100 gbs BUT in reality I don't need the 100 gbs. I never even come close.

Seriously considering scuttling the mini service as a result.

So if you discontinue your standby, what is the charge to restart the service later?
Good question. I let our starlink go inactive. Only needed it for a couple of months last year. I own the receiver, so I figure why pay a monthly fee for something I can restart anytime.

We are all pretty much just along for the ride on figuring out many of the details on pricing at this time.
I have a trip planned to the West coast in July. Fully committed and "HAVE to Go" trip!
So I had been planning a drive partly for the trip and to go a few places along the route.
We would be on the road three days out and three back. But doing a best guess estimate of what the gas is going to be by July plus motel and food expenses, only to find that we coud get tickets in hand for around $ 700 less to fly than drive!
Waiting to buy air tickets might have negated any savings but the more I thought about driving and under those weird conditions, I decided I did not need to do any visits along the way!
I'll just call and way to the folks in PHX on the way over! Now the question becomes if I can get enough oil for oil changes when I get back! But I won't need one near as soon if I fly....
Pennsoil is now over $5 a guart at Wally World!

Definitely not happy with Starlink doubling the stand by cost. $5 bucks seemed reasonable, but $120 a year does not. I'm on a standard dish with roam, and only use it 2 months a year while snow birding. I plan on cancelling and reactivating only when needed.

Of course just watch...Starlink will issue a new policy change and start charging a "reactivation fee". Any takers on betting me? Safe travels all....

I cancelled my starlink mini service 2 months ago. Not paying $$ for something I'm not using. Will reactivate the next time I need it. BTW, their customer support absolutely SUCKS!!!

When Bezos gets his system running, Starlink will have serious competition and hopefully we'll see lower prices.
