A member replacing the large opening skylight on a 2007 Sprinter View 24J asked what type of waterproof sealant should be used between the plastic skylight and fiberglass roof, since the aftermarket instructions did not specify liquid butyl, ProFlex, silicone, or another product. Another member pointed them to Winnebago’s sealant callout sheets for the 2007 View as the factory reference.

The original poster later reported that an Amazon replacement listed with the correct dimensions did not...

Hey folks

I am about to change out the large skylight on my 2007 Sprinter view. The one that opens up and has the sunshades on it. I am proficient with the self-leveling and non-self-leveling sealant however that you reseal every so many years however the instruction on this aftermarket skylight requires a bead of "waterproof sealant" in a channel on the outside piece that makes contact to the outside of the roof. (plastic to fiberglass) I can't find any recommendations in the manual on what sealant type to use. Liquid Butyl, Pro flex maybe silicone??? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Just an update to my skylight replacement journey. The skylight I order from Amazon advertised the correct dimensions however the corners were rounded and would work. Doesn't anyone know of an aftermarket skylight replacement for my model. The factory skylight from Winnebago is ridiculously expensive.

Thanks in advance

Yes, the OEM is often very high priced, so I look for other ways to get what is needed. I see the old one is removed, any chance it is still on hand to look carefully for something to ID who made it and what part number it had, other than the one Winnebago applied?
My thinking is this. There are very few parts which are used only on one brand and type of RV. Much of the time, there is a company making things like skylights and maybe for half a dozen different models. Plastic things like skylights, light covers, etc. often have a name, symbol or number stamped in them as they are formed. That allows folks who need to know, the info to sort each one out as well as who made it in many cases.
With the internet to help search, we have a much better chance than before, but it may take some digging. If we pull up some numbers and possibly brand or maker, we might be able to find a different source for the same skylight but under a different number than what Winnebago uses!
May not work but possibly well worth the time to check?
Considering the time to engineer, develope and then build molds and such to build a skylight to fit a few thousand RV of your type, I can't imagine it is not a more generic model that is also riding around on dozens of other RV under a different name!

My skylight bookmarks will hopefully be helpful.

I have found that Claude is an amazing resource for all kinds of things. And not just RV parts. Believe it or not he is the best source of advice and search that I have ever found.
