RV 11" higher than toad

So I thought I needed a 10" up-down receiver. Now I read Winnebago does not recommend any lower than 4".

My toad is a 2017 Jeep Wrangler.

Are there base plate risers? Or any suggestions? TY

Which model Winnebago and which baseplate and tow bar are you using?

We have a 26HE and a stock 2018 Wrangler
Use Roadmaster baseplate and ReadyBrute tow bar with integrated brake system
Had about 6” difference and installed a 4” drop adapter
Using the factory drilled cross hole, extended the adapter too far out causing it to drag on deep driveway entrances so I drilled another allowing the tongue to go farther in, solving the issue. The result left the variance within the 2” allowance

A 2019 Sightseer 36Z towing a 2017 Jeep Wrangler 2 door. Use a Roadmaster Falcon ALL TERRIAN tow bar, a Falcon Combo Kit, HDDN 10-14 JP WRN and STAY-N-PLAY BRK S.

Sales person, a many year RV veteran, says the 10" up down receiver would be okay and he has same model a few years older.

I guess we will see if we bottom out or not soon.

Make sure your MH is full loaded for travel before measuring. Plus, check your tow bar specs to see how much wiggle room you have (+/- 3"?). You may find that a 6" drop receiver will work, which should be fine.

Check both the tolerance allowed by the tow bar AND the tow vehicle mounting bracket manufacturers especially if you have inserts for the bracket that could be adversely stressed by exceeding the angle specs

The Road master bracket on my Wrangler JL spec allowed for 4” max which was the same as my ReadyBrute tow bar

So the 4” drop worked within the tolerance since I had a 6” to 8” difference depending on the RV load

As mentioned in another comment above it is very important to measure BOTH the RV’s lightest load and heaviest load you might be pulling the towd with so you are good in both situations

We use a 10" drop from our receiver to the tow bar. No issues after 25,000 miles. Yes, I know what the manual says. But there is no way a 4" drop could even come close.

Fabrication

We have a 2017 Vista LX towing a Chevy Sonic that requires a 12" drop, so I had a welder fabricate the hitch. We live in Florida, and have gone to Massachusetts and back twice with no problems. Well, a minor glitch in that we have to avoid driveways with deep dips or tall jumps.

Drop-Rise Hitch

We have a Sightseer 33C and tow a Ford Cmax. We have used a 12" drop for 20+k miles. Tow really well. Watch out for steep drive ways and some approaches to RV pads.


Search Ebay for "Ironman" or "Ironman Welding" they make 10,000 lbs. drop hitches, ANY size. Price is right too. My Cmax is almost 4000 lbs. So after dropping 12" - 10,000 lbs hitch, I have about 5,000 lbs Capabilities....

RogerD, some questions about your set up.
What is the receiver height of your Moho, without a hitch stabbed in. And what is the height of the base plate on your JK?
Ideally, the tow bar should be level between the Moho and toad. But better yet, the JK should be at least 3" lower than the Moho receiver.
This reduces the chance of the JK or any other toad, "climbing up" the tow bar in a hard braking situation.

Failed Receiver "Systerm"

I learned the hard way why they limit the "drop" from the receiver. It gives the system a lot more leverage to bend or break the mount system for the receiver. We had a '07 Suncruiser - 38T and used an 8" drop for our GMC Terrain. A trip to Alaska with the sharp up and down with frost heaves bent the mounting supports and actually tore the metal around two of the mounting bolts. We fortunately found a company in Great Falls on our way back that would build a replacement for us. They used much thicker metal that originally provided by Winnebago.

Isn't the MKX the Lincoln version of the Ford Edge? I just bought an Edge and was wondering about the drop hitch. I will have Roadmaster set it up for towing next week and am unsure which drop hitch would work. I have both a 6" and a 10".

Yep. We started with a 6” drop and changed to the 10” to make things more level. We found a solid steel 10” drop at etrailer.com
