I need to replace my house batteries for the first time and just found out i have to turn the solar off first. Question, what is the differance between removing the controller wires from the battery or just diconecting the battery terminals, isn’t both ways removing the 12 volts or am i missing something.
thanks for any input.

I changed my batteries and just disconnected the terminals. Everything works fine. I had to change the program on the controller to show i have Gel batteries but that’s it

There is an order of disconnecting, I think it is battery side first then panel side. Reconnect panels first and batteries last.
Check controller manual.

Never good to disconnect solar under load - do it at night, or throw a heavy towel over the panels

Careful that the battery leads will remain powered up if the panels aren’t covered.

You really should have a disconnect in the solar feed - even a resettable breaker will work
