Replacement inverter/charger 2008 Winnebago Journey 39Z

And were back to the charger/inverter not working. I suspect it may have taken my deep cycle batteries with it this time though. Have them out of the coach on the conditioner charger now. Fingers crossed I'm only buying a charger/inverter and not batteries as well

Any details on how this is failing? Things like what indications you were getting? Do the batteries suddenly seem to fail to charge or do they seem to run down way before expected?
During use or while stored?
Interested in the details of what you are seeing.

The failure has been happening over a period of time. Periodic failure to charge in the past. Most recently it stated that AC power was bad when plugged into shore power. AC power tested good throughout coach including the connection to the charger.

The last few days the display panel would show that the batteries were charging but they were not. Observing the unit directly in this state the fan on the unit would periodically start up. During those times i was getting big DC voltage surges.

To close the door on this my batteries were toast.

I studied available units and ultimately ordered a Progressive Dynamics unit. Got it installed sans remote and found myself scratching my head as to why my new batteries weren't charging 🤔

Upon closer inspection I realized I had ordered an inverter, not an inverter/charger/converter 🤦‍♂️

See post #19, you should have the inverter anyway. Lots of ways you can use that may not stand out to you as yet. I do concede it is not needed when you have SP, that is when the Converter is actually needed.

FWIW, the combo units are just Inverter / Converters. The Converter converts 120vac to 12vdc, which in turn is wired to your house battery and thus additionally charge the house batteries. The inverters takes 12vdc from the battery and inverts to 120vac.

So when driving my Inverter is always On, ACs (generator) on or not does not matter. Does not sound as if it is in your routine, but if you ever needed to boondock, nice to know everything (most things) could work without the Generator.

Realize I never closed this out.

I needed up getting a Xantrex Freedom 2000 and the remote display/controller.

I was able to mount it in a similar location but did have to cut off the old mounting posts.

The remote is smaller than the original so I did have to use some black cardboard of sorts to get it cleanly mounted. Also the oem was a 6 pin rg45 the new a 4 pin so I did determinate the existing wire vice routing the new included one.

No complaints with the Xantrex unit, other than cost of right around $1,000

Wow you went from no Inverter need to a top of the line Inverter. Congrats

When I lost my 1000 watt OEM Magnum Dynamics Inverter due to impact of a blown dually tire, it was $600 replace and $900 to upgrade to 2000 watts. I spent a lot of time researching and there is a thread on this forum I created if you care to find. I eliminated a lot of noise as I focused on what I needed, quality and cost. I ended up paying $180, got 2200 watts, a wireless remote and a wired remote, the wire was in the new 6 pin config; so I did have to fish the new wire in, I left the old 4 pin wire just in case.

I love the Yitranics and may buy a 2nd one just like it for my shed now that I have portable 200 watt solar panels. I got 2200 watt Inverter for RV because when I ran the math I will never need more than 1800 watts on my Inverter circuit. I am not trying to run the entire RV off my single house battery ( 300ah). Plus I used the same OEM wiring and I didn't even want to attempt 2,500 watts or more.

The mfg of the Yitrancis did not know you could run the wireless remote and wired at the same time. I have the wireless remote on my dashboard so when driving I can see if generator is on and/or turn Inverter on / off. If the generator is on, it will show 0000 watts because fridge is getting power from genny, but when genny shuts off, it may show 0264 watts because now the power is coming from inverter. My genny is always on Auto AGS and it may come on to cool the coach and turn back off when it gets too cold.

I have the below more than a year now. I could by 5 or 6 of the equivalent 2000 watt Magnum Dynamics Inverters

Another question. I stumbled across the Xantrex Freedom XC 2000 which would seem to be a suitable replacement. Reviewing the installation manual is would seem to be a straight swap over down to the optional control panel also using rj12 connectors. Am i missing anything?
Not knowing how you decided to go, the Zantrax Freedom 2000 Pro Marine version is how I'm going in my '07 Itasca Horizon 40td. You can reuse the RJ45 with a RJ12 adapter cross-wired at the inverter end & the other end using an opposite wired RJ12 or a DIY RJ12 connector using just the middle 4 wires of the RJ45 (8 WIRES) at the readout panel. Zantrex makes an adapter cover that works with the higher end display panel to cover the Dimensions panel hole in the One Place Center.

Zantrax will walk you through the parts needed.

I had rj12 connectors and tools and re-terminated the cable for the remote.

I had no idea they had the adapter cover. Ordering one now to replace my cardboard bezel. Thanks!
